Department of Commerce, Commerce Lab of St Philomena College Puttur in collaboration with Mangalore Branch of SIRC of ICAI organized One Day National Level Workshop on the topic ‘GST’ on October 5, 2018 in PG auditorium.
The Chairman, Mangalore Branch of SIRC of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India CA. B Shivananda Pai inaugurated the workshop and said, ‘GST is good and simple tax in its conception. It is the supply based and not the sale based tax. It eliminates cascading effect of the tax. It is purely compliance oriented in nature. Today, tax department is very much proactive. Hence, Accountants have to update their accounts every month without fail.’
The Campus Director & Chairman, Centre for PG Studies & Research of the College Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro participated as the chief guest. He said, ‘As a human being, it is our duty to acquire necessary level of knowledge and live in the society. The knowledge serves the society more effectively than anything else.’
The Chartered Accountant at Mangalore CA. M Jagannath Kamath and Principal of St Philomena PU College Rev. Fr Vijay Lobo participated as the guests of honour and expressed the greetings.
The Principal Prof. Leo Noronha in his presidential address said, ‘Every citizen has a tremendous role in nation building. The GST is the brainchild of the present Union Government. It is the duty of every citizen to pay the taxes in time.’
On this occasion, signing of MOU was held between St Philomena College Puttur and M. Jagannath Kamath and Co., Kodialbail, Mangalore.
Ms. Sreeraksha and group presented the prayer song. The Coordinator of the Department Rev. Fr Rithesh Lobo welcomed the gathering. Ms Dhanya K V proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Sushmitha K V compered the programme.
The inaugural programme was followed by two technical sessions. The Retired Superintendent of Central Excise Mr. K R Bhat and Chartered Accountant at Mangalore CA. Anusha participated as the resource persons and spoke on the topic ‘One Nation One Tax’ – Overview of GST. The faculties of various educational institutions, PG students, Businessmen and Accountants have participated as the delegates.
The faculty of the Department Mr. Yashavantha G Nayak, Fr George Sunil D’Souza, Mrs. Avina Madtha and Ms. Seema coordinated the workshop.
